ASMP Referendum 2007

Not too long ago I was reading a lot of revolutionary
history from a number of countries. The
common thread that precipitated the overthrow of the government was that it did
not respond to the needs of its subjects.
It was this disenchantment with benevolent monarchy that led to the
birth of our very nation and our democratic form of government.
Our Board of Directors has a legal duty called a Fiduciary
Responsibility to act in the best interests of the membership. I am told as part of beginning their tenure
as Board Members, Vic Perlman (the man who has defended us and our copyrights in
Congressional Hearings) educates them very fully about the scope of this.
We have elected this ASMP Board of Directors to serve us,
their membership. There has been some
discussion about some of the reasons why it might not be a good idea to vote in
favor of this referendum – this is speculative at best, from what I have read.
Everyone’s business models have shifted over the last few
years due to the digital revolution. I
believe that our survival in this profession relies upon the trade
organizations that speak with one voice to help define and resolve issues in
our favor. ASMP is my trade
organization of choice and I say Vote YES on the referendum to allow our Board
to focus their energies and help to sustain the viability of our business
models.
History has shown, that governments that are not serving the
people can and will be removed. It is
time for us to trust the people that we have voted for in our elections.
Please join me in voting YES on the ASMP 2007 Member
Referendum.
